POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (May 22, 2023) – It was a bittersweet celebration for widow, Assitan Niangadou-Sidibe, as she received the keys to her new home at the dedication ceremony hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Broward on Saturday, May 20, for four WOMENBuild sponsored homes at “A Rick Case Habitat Community.”

The four new homeowners, including the Marieffe Ferrera, Takira Lundy, and Niangadou-Sidibe families are thankful for their generous home sponsors CITY Furniture, Sharon Gustofson-Floresque, J.R. Dunn and WSVN 7.

“This is a blessing I could never have hoped for without Habitat Broward and my sponsor Sharon Gustofson-Floresque. She gave my family a future filled with hope and security,” said Niangadou-Sidibe.

Niangadou-Sidibe was born and raised in West Africa, and like most immigrants, she came to the United States in search of the “American Dream.” New York was her welcoming State but after getting married, she moved to sunny South Florida and had two wonderful children.

Sadly, Niangadou-Sidibe’s husband passed away suddenly in 2021 and that’s when she turned to Habitat Broward as she could no longer afford a decent place to live for her family on her own. One of her coworkers, at the Fort Lauderdale International Airport told her about the Habitat Broward homeownership program and Sidibe applied and was accepted into the program.

Now Niangadou-Sidibe can rest assured in her new haven with children 13 years old, 8th grader Assan Sidibe and 5th grader Kadijatu Sidibe who also celebrated her 11th birthday on dedication day.

“This day shows what can be accomplished when we all work together to provide homeownership to hard-working families,” said Nancy Robin, CEO and Executive Director of Habitat Broward. “These four families with your help, are building homes, community and hope.”

Robin continued “A house is not just a house, it’s a home that nurtures families. It offers children the chance to do better at school, it leads to healthier families, a home improves safety, and it economically empowers like no other force…homeownership should be valued and also celebrated.”

Affordable housing uplifts residents, encourages social connection, increases adjacent property values, attracts businesses, jobs, and lowers crime rates.

Launched in 2023, “The Rita Case WOMENBuild” exhibited real girl power by raising a towering $800,000 in sponsorship for eight new homes including these four at “A Rick Case Habitat Community.” When complete, the Pompano Beach community of 76 homes will be the largest affordable homeownership community in the County’s history.

Spearheaded by business leader and philanthropist, Rita Case, “The Rita Case WOMENBuild” engages other extraordinary South Florida women in leadership to unite in their commitment to provide decent, safe, and affordable housing to the underserved in the area.

Since its launch in 2002, Habitat Broward’s “Women Build” program has engaged, equipped, and empowered more than 1,000 women to fund and build 52 homes throughout Broward County.

Women Build is a global movement that seeks to empower women to support women and families in need of affordable housing. The need is great in Broward, the nation’s most cost prohibitive community for affordable workforce housing.

Habitat for Humanity of Broward hosts historic dedication ceremony for 15 new two-story homes at ‘A Rick Case Habitat Community’ in Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (April 3, 2023) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward recently celebrated the completion of 15 new two-story homes with a dedication ceremony at its historic “A Rick Case Habitat Community” in Pompano Beach. This is a record high, as this is the most homes Habitat Broward has ever dedicated in one event.

“There are not enough words to describe how grateful we are. It has always been a dream of ours to become homeowners, and today Habitat’s supporters made this dream a reality,” said new homeowner, Lashicia Harris.

“This is the result of so much hard work and heart,” Habitat Broward CEO and Executive Director Nancy Robin said in a statement. “I’m immensely proud of each and every one of our families for making today happen, and I’m so very thankful for our sponsor the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, volunteers, construction team and other employees who made the completion of these homes possible.”

All 15 family homes were sponsored by The Fredrick A. DeLuca Foundation through a transformational grant to Habitat Broward.

South Florida is the nation’s most cost-burdened housing market in the nation with high home prices and low wages making homeownership out of reach for 94 percent of Broward residents.

The benefits are clear, Habitat homeowners are healthier, safer, more likely to go to college and have 44 times the net worth of those families renting.

With assistance from Habitat Broward, families are able to acquire modest homes with mortgages kept to 30 percent of household income. To qualify, individuals must start off by providing 300 hours of sweat equity to construct their homes and the other houses in the neighborhood. Families must also attend a year of homeownership classes and make a small down payment.

“The journey to homeownership isn’t easy,” said Habitat Board Chair, Lily Pardo. “But these families understand the long-term impact of owning a safe, stable and affordable home. It’s a testament to how hard they are willing to work to create better opportunities for themselves and their families for generations to come.”

“A Rick Case Habitat Community” was made possible by Ed Ansin of Sunbeam/WSVN Channel 7, and Rita and Rick Case of Rick Case Automotive Group who stepped forward with a leadership gift to name this historic new community and provided much of the funding for the infrastructure.

The project is also made possible by the Mary N. Porter Legacy Fund of the Community Foundation of Broward, the City of Pompano Beach, the Hudson Family Foundation, Burdette Beckmann, Inc., the Robert Taylor Family, the Wadsworth Family Foundation, the Elizabeth Peters Estate, the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, the Estate of Renate Wylie, the Robert L. Elmore Estate, JM Family Enterprises and other contributors and volunteers.

The community will feature 76 affordable homes consisting of 42 one-story and 35 two-story units with sizes ranging from 1,200 to 1,300 sq. ft. homes. All homes feature sustainable, energy-efficient materials, including impact windows, to minimize environmental impact, improve indoor air quality, and reduce utility and maintenance costs. Additional features include a park and children’s playground that will be accessible to residents of the community and the surrounding area.

The total project is estimated to cost over $18 million in funds that will be raised and leveraged through partnerships with corporations, foundations, government agencies, the faith community and generous individuals.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (March 6, 2023) – More than 50 CEOs and C-suite leaders from many of South Florida’s largest companies came together to raise awareness and over $300,000 in support of affordable workforce housing in Broward County during Habitat for Humanity of Broward’s 4th annual CEO Build on Saturday, March 4. The task at hand for the event included top executives dedicating time and effort to help roof four homes at “A Rick Case Habitat Community,” a historic 76-home community in Pompano Beach.

Event co-chairs Brent Burns, President and CEO of JM Family Enterprises, Inc. and Keith Koenig, Chairman of City Furniture, led the task force to support affordable workforce housing in Broward County, the most cost-burdened housing market in the country.

“These CEO Build participants understand the critical need for affordable workforce housing in our community and chose to be a force for change and be a part of the solution,” said Nancy Robin CEO and Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Broward. “They collectively lead hundreds of thousands of employees.”

By June of this year, 58 homes will be completed in “A Rick Case Habitat Community.”

Additionally, Habitat Broward has acquired land and plans to build 20 townhomes in the “BBI Village” community in Fort Lauderdale and 13 townhomes in Coral Springs. Open enrollment for these energy-efficient, affordable townhomes closes on March 31, 2023. This is a great opportunity for qualified applicants to start their journey to homeownership.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (July 25, 2022) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward celebrated the dedication of The Miranda Family’s new affordable home, on Saturday, July 23, at Northwest 27th Avenue, in the Collier City revitalization community in Pompano Beach.

Tanisia Miranda is a devoted mother of three, who worked hard to become the first person in her family to own a home. As a payroll clerk for the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department and a part-time park ranger for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, she is dedicated to her career, while providing a better life for her children.

“We recognize that affordable housing is critical to put individuals and families on a path toward long-term stability and success,” said Lori Chevy, president, Bank of America Fort Lauderdale. “For three decades, Bank of America has partnered with Habitat for Humanity across the country in support of our shared goal to build thriving communities through the power of homeownership. Congratulations, Miranda family!”

When asked what homeownership means to her, Miranda said words can’t come close to expressing her gratitude and excitement. “This means the world to us. It makes all those long nights, sometimes working 14 days straight, worth it. There was a purpose for it all and it came in God’s grace and his time.”

(June 21, 2022) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward, the City of Pompano Beach and home sponsors Burdette Beckmann Inc., Robert Taylor Jr. Family, The Fountainhead and TIAA Bank celebrated the dedication of four new affordable homes on Saturday, June 18th at NW 27th Avenue, in the Collier City revitalization community in Pompano Beach ahead of Juneteenth and Father’s Day festivities during National Homeownership Month.

New Habitat homeowner, Willie Fletcher reflects on how important this milestone is for him and his family especially on the eve of Juneteenth and Father’s Day. When asked what he is looking forward to the most Fletcher said, “to wake up every single day in our own home and realize our dream came true and to feel just how truly blessed we are.” The dad of one, to Kiara (8), thanked the City and his home sponsor Robert Taylor Jr. Family and Burdette Beckmann, Inc. for making the day possible.

“Millard Fuller once said, ‘for a community to be whole and healthy, it must be based on people’s love and concern for each other. (June 13, 2022) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward (Habitat) in partnership with the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and the City of Pompano Beach (City) celebrated the dedication of four new affordable homes on Saturday, June 11th at NW 27th Avenue, in the Collier City neighborhood of Pompano Beach.

The four homes are part of an innovative 12 home partnership between Habitat, the CRA and the City to revitalize Collier City, remove blighted vacant lots, reduce crime, and deliver an affordable home ownership opportunity to the community. Nine of the 12 lots were deeded to Habitat by the CRA for the construction of affordable single-family homes. Habitat purchased three other lots privately.

The new homes and various improvements to the Collier City neighborhood are the result of a master plan for the revitalization of the area initiated by the CRA. “We are very proud of the tremendous spirit of cooperation that occurred between the Public and Nonprofit sectors to bring this extraordinary project to fruition,” said Nguyen Tran, Pompano Beach CRA Director. “Single family homes had not been allowed previously in a B2 Commercially Zoned District until the CRA approached the City in 2015 to amend the zoning code. In 2019, the CRA deeded 9 vacant lots to Habitat for Humanity to transform this area and provide much needed housing. And today, we welcome with these families as they become proud Pompano Beach first-time homeowners.”

Representatives Nguyen Tran, Cyndy Floyd, Pompano Beach City Commissioner and Robert McKinzie, City Commissioner, District III joined the new homeowners to celebrate along with Habitat home sponsors, board members, family, and friends.

“The pioneering work of the City of Pompano Beach and the sponsorship of JM Family Enterprises has allowed us to build more than homes within a struggling neighborhood, together we are building community,” said Nancy Robin CEO and Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Broward. “Thanks to the CRA, NW 27th Avenue has a much brighter future held fast by the anchor of homeownership.”

New Habitat homeowner, Lashon Dicks celebrated the day after a year of education and home construction had earned her the home and its affordable mortgage. The Healthcare Billing Specialist and mother of two boys Zavious (12) and Kelly (7) thanked the City and her home sponsor JM Family Enterprises for making the day possible. “We are so blessed to have a place of our own that provides the peace of mind only ownership can give you,” she said.

Open Enrollment for Habitat Broward’s New Energy Efficient, Affordable Single Family Pompano Beach Homes Begins Tuesday, February 1

(January 31, 2022) – Open enrollment for Habitat for Humanity of Broward’s pre-application process for new energy efficient, affordable housing at “A Rick Case Habitat Community” and North-West 27th Street developments in Pompano Beach will begin on Tuesday, Friday 1, via www.habitatbroward.org.

The new energy efficient single and two story affordable Habitat homes in Pompano Beach include four bedrooms garages modern kitchens landscaped yards and hurricane impact windows

The new energy efficient models will include four bedrooms, garages, modern kitchens, landscaped yards, and hurricane impact windows.

These locations are minutes away from beautiful beaches, schools, churches, a lively art and cultural scene, and great recreational and shopping amenity.

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime for first time home buyers, there is no better affordable housing option in Broward County,” said Thor Barraclough, Habitat Broward Chief Program Officer. “Selected applicants will enjoy affordable mortgage loans through our home ownership program and can achieve the economic empowerment that comes from owning your own home.”

The homes include the last 33 to be built in the new intentional community, “A Rick Case Habitat Community,” which when completed, will be the largest affordable housing development of single-family homes in Broward’s history, providing 76 homes for hard-working families.

The application process has four steps that includes a pre-qualification questionnaire, orientation, financial analysis review and face-to-face interview. Successful applicants can expect to move into a home within 12 to 18 months.

Qualifications include but are not limited to the following:

• Must be a first-time home buyer.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Must be a current Broward County resident or working in Broward (for a year or more).
• Must demonstrate a need for affordable housing.
• Must be able to afford a zero-percent mortgage and make a $2,000 down-payment.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (February 8, 2022) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward welcomed home five hard working families on Saturday, February 5th at “A Rick Case Habitat Community” in Pompano Beach.

Representative Chip LaMarca, Broward County Commissioner Lamar Fisher, Pompano Beach Mayor Rex Hardin, and Vice Mayor Beverly Perkins joined the new homeowners to celebrate along with Habitat home sponsors, board members, family, and friends.

“We are now more than halfway through folks, with only 33 of our 76 homes to go at A Rick Case Habitat Community – our current class of future homeowners is our largest ever and we are currently accepting applications for our next class so please share the word,” said Kelly Kolb, Chair of Habitat Broward. “In other words, we are very busy. Why? Well because Broward is one of the most cost-burdened housing markets in the country, but for these five families that is no longer the case. This year, their hard work has earned them their part of the American Dream.”

The proud first-time homeowners include couples Susan Black and Dammaine Medley; Kelsey and Antonio McNeal; Osseline and Claude Moreau; Erik Boyd and Belinda Sterile-Boyd; along with Lydia and Hank Williams.

“Before we joined the Habitat program, every month Dammaine and I would ask ourselves why we were spending all this money to pay off someone else’s mortgage?” said Black. That’s when the family decided to apply for Habitat Broward’s program. Now, when the family makes that first mortgage payment every cent is an investment in the family’s future.

“Now we are building a future,” Black added. As a Hospital Coordinator at Conviva Medical Center, Black works alongside partner Medley, a Patient Transportation Associate for the same location. The Jamaican American parents are raising four children ranging from age three to 21.

Habitat for Humanity of Broward received a $5,000 grant from State Farm as the company celebrates its 100th anniversary
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (January 18, 2022) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward received a $5,000 grant from State Farm as the company celebrates its 100th anniversary. The grant funds will be used towards keeping Habitat homeowners safe from hurricane-force winds by providing hurricane straps to anchor the homes’ roof trusses to the exterior walls. The grant will benefit hard-working families in need of a decent, affordable place to live in Broward County.

“This grant embodies the spirit of what our company has been about for the last 100 years, about giving back and being a good neighbor,” said Jose Soto at State Farm. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Habitat Broward and to help keep families safe and secure.”

Affordable, resilient housing is critical to promoting a sustainable COVID-19 recovery for the more than 80 percent of Broward residents who can’t afford their own home and the local economy they support.

“Broward County is a highly desirable place to live and because of that we are plagued with a shortage of housing,” said Rep. POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (August 18, 2021) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward is one of more than 220 Habitat for Humanity organizations awarded a grant from Wells Fargo as part of its nationwide initiative to help families unable to obtain conventional financing to become first-time homeowners.

Wells Fargo’s $15,000 grant to Habitat Broward will help provide the Moreaus, a hard-working family of seven, with a home of their own in A Rick Case Habitat Community in Pompano Beach.

“Far too many people across the country are facing housing instability and one of our key priorities is to create housing affordability solutions where everyone can have a safe and affordable place to call home,” said Wells Fargo South Florida Social Impact and Sustainability Leader Leo Toca. “We are proud to support Habitat for Humanity of Broward in providing homeownership opportunities in South Florida.”

“Wells Fargo understands the economic empowerment that comes with homeownership and is acting on this belief across the nation,” said Nancy Robin, Habitat Broward CEO and Executive Director. “Families like the Moreaus would not achieve the dream of homeownership without great corporate citizens like Wells Fargo and we can’t thank them enough.”

The grant is part of a $7.75 million donation Wells Fargo is making to Habitat for Humanity International through Wells Fargo Builds, an initiative that provides philanthropic financial support and volunteerism to create sustainable affordable housing. More than 340 homes will be constructed or repaired with Habitat in over 40 states through the initiative this year. Wells Fargo Builds is part of Wells Fargo’s $1 billion philanthropic commitment to create more housing affordability solutions by 2025.

Habitat Broward Receives $30,000 Grant from Truist Foundation

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Habitat for Humanity of Broward has received a $30,000 grant from Truist Foundation to support its NW 27th Avenue Project, a bold initiative to build affordable housing and revitalize a historic Pompano Beach community.

“We are so honored and grateful to receive this Truist Foundation grant to support this revitalization project within the NW 27th Avenue corridor,” said Nancy Robin, Habitat Broward CEO and executive director. “This project within a priority redevelopment area offers critical opportunities for first-time homeownership for families while boosting area economic growth.”

Empty lots within the Collier City area have been linked to increased blight, crime and civic disengagement. Habitat Broward will partner with the City of Pompano Beach to build 12 new homes, increase street lighting and improve McNair Park. In conjunction, Broward County will add an attractive new Broward Sherriff’s Office substation to the area. These elements will encourage revitalization, reduce opportunities for crime and create the community stability that comes with single-family home development.
